{playing in San Francisco}

Over winter break- which was a really, really long time ago- I went to SF to meet up with my buddy Marco. It really doesn't feel like it has been that long- this quarter is going by SO FAST. It's crazy.

As I drove to the city, I stopped to take pictures of this diner {The Fremont Diner} that I have been dying to go to... every time I drive past it's always closed {they have bizarre hours} or we can't stop. This time it was closed... the sun was setting.

It's adorable and "I.want.to.go.to.there." as so nicely put by the lovely Liz Lemon.

Adorable, no?

Anyway, Marco had found this really cool antiques warehouse.... WAREHOUSE. yeah.  Big Daddy's Antiques {they also have one in L.A.} It was huge and magnificent... I took way too many photos and basically wanted to move into the place.

I want my house to look sort of like this one day.
BUT THE BEST PART WAS...... THERE WERE BIRD CAGES WITH REAL DOVES
love.

AHHh. I want to go back! Afterwards we went and had lunch at Tartine
and then had ice cream at Bi-Rite Creamery

I love Bi-Rite... they have such great flavors
and I always ask to try different flavors,
but always just chose the same two:
Honey Lavender and Caramel

YUM.

{jewelry}

Sometimes I'm in a super crafty mood.... and to solve this, well, I do crafty things.

....like make jewerly.

These pieces were made from charms that I have been collecting from random places like funky little shops and charms that have been given to me by my lovely friends and family.

Over break I was feeling particularly crafty and I made three necklaces...
and developed ideas for others that haven't yet been made.

Supplies, supplies, supplies!!!
Not shown is my Liver of Sulfer station. Liver of Sulfur
is pretty much one of my favorite little known secrets to jewerly making.
It tarnishes silver jewerly (I use it for charm pieces and silver
chains) to give the jewerly a nice patina and then
you just polish to get the desired silverness for each individual piece.
Pretty nifty, huh?

 Not-so-Naughty Nautical:
(actually wearing this one as I type this!)

Milagros Inspired:

French Inspired (obvs):
the coin is a Repulic of France Franc, very old school

My cupcake stand also doubles as a jewerly-making stand.

So basically all I want to do for the rest of my life is make jewelry
and other fun and crafty things.
Can't I just do that? Please?

{Christmas Time}

It has been just a little over one month since Christmas-but it feels like it's been ages!

Here are some photos of what goes on in the de Limur household around the Christmas festivities! Of course these photos don't even begin
to capture all the things we did over Christmas- who we celebrated with
and all the different activities that we squeezed into the craziness of the holidays.

{The Progession of the Christmas Tree}
We cut our trees down from our property as a family, and multi-family
tradition.

DONE!

I LOVE setting the table- for any occasion.
 I feel like it is one of the
most important
aspects of any dinner party
....of course the company is important too!

 Christmas Eve. Super lowkey and sweet.
I love this picture of the boys- captures the essence of the night
{slightly blurry but fun!}

'Till Next Year!

{Thanksgiving}

Thanksgiving was a very long, long time ago... but it provided a much needed R&R from school and a chance to be home and hang out with family.

These are from my grandmother, Nanna's and great-grandmother's collection.

The elephant has a helicopter spining top, the toy soldier
beats his drum when he is wound up, the cat rolls around with its
ball of yarn and the hen clucks and lays eggs.
Fun, fun, fun!

Over Thanksgiving weekend, our family friends the Finneran's, had an exhibit of their vintage and AHH-mazing toy collection. They have been collecting their toys from all over the world on their various travels. This inspired us get out {AND PLAY WITH!!!} our own vintage toys that are normally displayed up in our kitchen cupboards.

{tea time}

For years I fantasized out loud about having a tea party...  and finally last summer I bit the bullet and threw together a tea party with some close friends.

I put up lanterns and tissue paper banners with the help of my mom and moved some furniture in the Redwood circle right out side our house.
Very magical for a nice summer day.

Made the gals put on their Sunday bests and we drank tea,
ate lime custard tartlettes and played croquet....

Can I just throw tea parties for my profession? Please?

fruit tarts with  lime custard

hand painted Marzipan decorated cupcakes (Chloe made the cake of the cupcakes!)

We also tried on vintage hats. You know, to get the full tea party affect.

I've decided this woodland tea party must become an annual event.

{who's attle?}

Chloe and I wanted to embark on a mini-adventure/trip, so we hopped on a plane to “see Attle" for a few days.

{we were chatting about going to Seattle with our friend Marco
and he promptly asked "who's Attle?"}

We stayed with Chloe's fantastically sweet and amazing grandparents Shelia and Herman {we slept in Shelia's quilt-collection room and watched movies with them each evening}

For the second evening we there, we went off to a beautiful beach park to an event where we sat and watched the sunset while listening to a local artist's song. It was a whimsical song and a beautiful sunset.

I must note that we had amazing weather the ENTIRE time we were up in Seattle, it was sunny everyday... {one day it did rain a bit in the morning} Everyone we talked to kept sayin that the weather was deceiving us....

Of course we did things like visit Pike Place Market, where we bought flowers wrapped in brown paper, tied up with strings....

My mom grew up in Seattle and I had never actually been though I have grown up hearing stories about the city.
I can't wait to go back and see the city with her
and do what the Seattleites of the 70's did.

 She gave us a list of suggestions, including taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island.

We went up to Volunteer Park and Shelia took a photo of Chloe and me in front of the statue Black Sun by Isamu Noguchi.... it was where my mom took her senior photo for High School and I felt that it was really touching that I was able to visit her old neighborhood.

Chloe and I also went exploring on University of Washington's campus and we saw
Mount Rainier poking his head out of the clouds.
Apparently it's a rare occasion.

On our last evening Herman took us up to Kerry Park, on Queen Anne Hill to see the sunset over the Seattle skyline.
Our last shebang in Seattle....just majestic.

Overall it was an amazing trip and Chloe and I were just reminiscing about our buddy Attle last night and agreeing that we were both so happy to have seized the opportunity.

I loved Seattle and I hope to go visit again soon.

{shake your tail feathers}

I do love a good art project and for Halloween
I decided to become a Peacock.... tail and all.

Oh what the things you can do with
a little imagination and a petit student budget....
Fun things from your closet, gift wrapping bows,
construction paper and cheap makeup.

Great time making the costume and a great time wearing it!

my friend Jackie

Happy Halloween!
